Christchurch experienced divesting earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 which flattened a large amount of the historical city. However, today the rebuild has led to an incredible opportunity to develop a vibrant urban city. There I real sense of innovation and creativity within the young city.
None less so the the Cardboard Cathedral erected in place of the historic Anglican Cathedral which marked the centre of the city. Christchurch today is full of exciting street art and an unbelievable amount of exciting bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
A trip up Mount Cavendish in the gondola is well worth the visit to witness from above the extent of the damage and equally the extent of the rebuild. Check out also the re:START retail area - a zone of shapes and cafes living in recycled shipping containers.
Traditionally Christchurch was firmly routed in its English Heritage and today punting on the Avon river, cycling on the river banks, and promenading in the Botanical Gardens are still favourite past times of locals and visitors a like
