What are the best adventure activities in New Zealand?

New Zealand has so much to offer a visitor. From rolling hills, snow-capped mountains, vast lakes, and glaciers it has a landscape that invites you to get stuck in and do some crazy activities in it.

Zorbing
Take 2 people, a giant hamster ball, a lot of warm water and a big hill…what do you have? Zorbing! yup this crazy activity was actually invented in New Zealand and is a great way to spend a morning or an afternoon. You can do it without the water but where’s the fun in that!?

Glacier Hiking
Ancient glaciers, spiked boots, ice caves and stunning mountain views - glacier hiking on Fox or Franz Josef is something that will easily make the highlights reel of your NZ trip. If you’ve got a bit more cash to splash combine it with a helicopter scenic tour and do the heli hike!

Milford Sound cruise
Again if you’re wanting to take the adrenaline down a few notches then head down to Milford Sound at the bottom of the South Island where you can soak up some more of the stunning scenery that people fall in love within New Zealand. Spots like Mirror Lake are always a highlight and you’ll no doubt pack your camera full of goodness!

Bungee Jumping
Personally, we think this is more nerve-racking that skydiving! Queenstown is the centre of NZ bungee fun with the guys from AJ Hackett offering up heaps of options from bridge jumping to canyon swings! 1…2….3….bungeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Skydiving
If you like your adrenaline with even more of a view then skydiving is a must! New Zealand offers a variety of drop zones - from views over Lake Taupo in the north to the snow capped mountains of Queenstown in the south…so spread out your tick list a bit!

White Water Rafting
Did you know that New Zealand is home to the world highest commercial waterfall? Well, it is! Head to Rotorua and tackle the 7 metre high, grade 5 rapid for some serious white water fun.

Hobbiton
Whether you’re a die-hard fan or merely a casual film watcher a visit to the Hobbiton set is always great fun. Wander around the Shire and learn heaps about the creation of the epic movies that really put NZ landscapes on the map.

Kayaking
If adrenaline isn’t your thing or you want a slightly slower pace for the day New Zealand is the perfect spot for a kayaking tour. Whether you do a half-day trip around Cathedral Cover or a few days of adventuring in the Abel Tasman National Park its a great way to explore the rivers, lakes and coastline of New Zealand…and the views?! Well, the views are stunning!

Swimming With Dolphins
Probably one of the most underrated but incredible experience you can have in New Zealand! Many people head out from Kaikoura to go dolphin and whale watching but for a bit extra you can actually swim alongside hundreds of wild dolphins - words can not describe how magical it is!

Surfing
Although not as famed for surfing as it’s cousin Australia there are plenty of world-class surf breaks across New Zealand. One of our favourites is in Raglan - a hippy surf town in the North Island which is much like a quieter Byron Bay.

If you already surf it has epic left-hand point breaks or if you just want to get started the beach offers some great beginner waves and Raglan Surf School has some amazing instructors!
